I posted the following graphic in a reply to my (our) good friend a fellow blogger, banned (What a great and well informed guy!) from the UK yesterday regarding our recent earthquake and thought it might be wise but not alarming (at least in the government's eyes) to remind all of the danger that still exists considering the region in general.

I will not go on and on about what happened between 1811 and 1812 in this region but you can imagine by the numbers in population and subsequent infrastructure what a series of (4) earthquakes ranging from 7.0 - 8.1 in magnitude would do.
Considering magnitudes mentioned above and also the proximity I found this map / graphic to be most illustrative as to what I speak of:
We all hear the question of when will the "Big One" hit California along the San Andreas fault line but I think the better question is when will the next "Big One" hit the New Madrid?
Just food for thought.
