Tokyosnowlet: Of Crazy Rare Things

Of Crazy Rare Things

  • And Their Price Tags
I've accumulated a few things that I want to blog about, and (FINALLY) now I decide to blog it all together in one post. So here are some of the rarest stuff and their prices.

This dress is 120 years old. Oh yeah, not only it's old, it is made up of 1000 beetle wings. These glittery wings are collected when the beetle naturally shed as they grow in size. As it experienced much wear and tears, The National Trust has this dress on their priority list to conserve. So, this dress took an expert team 1,300 hours to restore, and it cost them £50,000.

This dress is an iconin dress as it was worn by Ellen Terry when she played Lady Macbeth at London’s Lyceum Theatre in 1888. This masterpiece will go on display at Smallhythe Place, Kent.

Hmmm, bettle wings, I would definitely love to see this in person.

I don't want to state all the facts here as I myself am not really sure, and of some facts, I don't believe, but here are some interesting ones that I myself do believe.

11-feet wide, 8-feet high. More than enough to eat world-class basketball player, Yao Ming, up while he's standing straight! It's the world largest set of shark jaws which comes from a Megalodon shark (google it). Composed of 182 fossil teeth, which some are over 7 inches across!

The good news is, this set of jaw will be up for grabs in Dallas, Texas in June at the Heritage Auction Galleries. The bad news? The asking price for this is at a bank-biting price tag of US$625,000 and the auction house is expecting to sell it at $US700,000 or more!

Last but not least, dog. Or dawg. Wait, it's a puppy. Tibetan Mastiffs are known to be the most expensive dogs in the world, and the one above is a Red Tibetan Mastiffs, (I'll just conclude everything) 11-months old, 3-feet tall, 180lbs, fed with chicken, beef, sea cucumber and abalone. Oh my goodness. Abalone. Oh and it was bought at 10 million Yuan (£945,000).

What's worse? Now since the one above is the most expensive dog in the world, the second most expensive one (also a Tibetan Mastiff) was bought at US$582,000 and it was escorted home by a motorcade of 30 black limousines.

What. 30 black limousines. Save the money on petrol, and donate the money to charity. Much better, no?
