That is the direct effect of liberal socialism.
Lack of laws, lack of judges to uphold those laws, unions and the total absence of any personal responsibility on the part of it's leaders, "community organizers' and a great deal of it's inhabitants for at least four decades (40 years for those in Rio Linda).
No statue, high-speed rail or wishy-washy 'good intention's can save this city nor others like it. The only thing that may bring this city back and save yours from becoming like it is a complete and uninhibited return to our founding, a Constitutional Republic and complete adherence to the laws that it was and is based upon.
We need not look overseas or to history to see the very real damage socialism does, it is right here for all to see in all it's destruction, crime, lousy schools, squalor, desperation and hopelessness.
What Detroit needs is a fire the size of the Great Chicago Fire and rebuild it from the ashes, this city is 'shovel-ready'.
